Well this morning was an early one, after a lot of walking up and down the Las Vegas strip yesterday and an early night, it was up at 5am for the 4.5 hr coach ride to the Grand Canyon. I met up with a Brazilllian girl called Gabbi who was my companion for the day. After collecting us from various hotels and hostels we were dropped off at a vitamin factory. I was a bit confused, but then the guide said they use this as their base as it benefits both parties. A lot of the Japanese people brought a lot of vitamins! I got split up from Gabbi and sat next to a large lad from Texas on the long and boring journey - though the bus driver was very vocal and has lots of facts about Vegas. Apparently it is one of the biggest growing cities and there are not enough schools for all the children there. He also showed us a large expanse of land on the way out that a couple had brought years ago, and are now selling acre plots for $30k - and they land was as far as the eye could see. They also won the lottery. Some people are just lucky! On the way I got to watch quite an interesting film - the name escapes me now but it was directed by Ron Arnold, was about a group of young teenagers making rockets, and starred Jake Glylenhall - well worth the watch. The bus driver kept saying he knew the guy who the film was based on - that was his 15 mins!

On the way to the Grand Canyon we stopped so some people could watch an IMAX film about it and had some lunch. When we got to the Grand Canyon (finally), and after climbing thousands of feet up, we were greeted by snow! I was really cold but was totally amazed by the sights. Every time you looked at the Grand Canyon it looked different because of the position of the clouds and the little sun there was. It didn't feel real though as I couldn't touch it, it looked like a painting and I wanted to get closer to know that it was real. I couldn't do this, though Gabbi's hat did - she left it on the side and it blew right off! Some people go on donkeys down to the bottom, but then apparently walk back up as the donkeys get a little to closer to the edge for their liking. There are viewing platforms inside the shops so I viewed from there - I also found a book about all the people that had died in the Grand Canyon, for many reasons such as suicide, lightning, plane crashes etc, and I found this book morbidly fascinating - I even took the ISBN number down! In hind sight I should have taken a helicopter flight as I could have got a lot closer without being on the back of an animal I don't trust! It really was a long day, and after stopping at the Hoover Damn for a picture (but not to close since 9.11) we returned to LV about 10pm.

As always I had made a plan of everything I wanted to see that night in Las Vegas and was quick to get the girls moving. However, everything is so big and so far apart I didn't really get to see everything I wanted to see - I know I will go back there though so it really doesn't bother me. The things I did miss were Circus Circus - I wanted to re-inact Johhny Depp in 'Fear and Loathing...' and the other was the Sky Tower or whatever it was called, that was very high and had rides at the top of it! We went and watched the indoor thunderstorm at The Alladin (a hotel that was so big it had it's own 4 part shopping mall in the bottom), saw the flamingo's and penguins at Flamingo's (disappointing), and watched two of the fountain shows at the Bellagio (which by the way takes 20 mins just to walk round a little bit of the inside). Both were to classic opera tunes and it was so beautiful I nearly cried - the girls did too! We were all tired and got back to the hostel at 2am
