Well today was a really good day. After free breakfast I applied the sun cream (yes it was a scorcher today) and headed down to the sea front. I wanted to rent a bike and had to find one with a nice fat saddle like I prefer. I found one at Rock n Roll or something like that, and the bike was cool, plus he gave me some specific (but really hard to follow) directions. I followed the waterfront in a westerly direction, along the beach where the sun, sea and sand whipped at me. It really was a windy day, but it never seemed to be behind me, just across!

I rode up the hill to the Golden Gate Bridge which took me about quarter of an hour to cross. It was quite fascinating looking a the views from up there - though I was sure the wind was going to take my head off. After the bridge you descend down a steep hill to Sausalito which was a really pretty town/village, like you would expect in this posh part of town. I found yet another house boat marina -do you see a pattern yet? I have found that I really like the house boats. The place was so peaceful and quiet, and there was an advert for one to rent but I didn't look into it - I'm sure I could never afford to live on one!

I followed a half made road under the freeway (again the cross winds really took it out of me), and when I got to the end I was a little lostish. A woman came up to me and was telling me about the area. She has lived there since '93 and said that it is the windiest day she has seen! I told her that I was having such a good bike ride, it was really therapeutic and preffered to be doing it on my own - she agreed. She also told me that quite a few famous people lived up one the hill, and that Marin County is the richest county in the US - I really could tell.

After another 4 miles along the coast and around Richmond Bay, through some back streets (looking at houses again), and biking on the main road - even contended with some traffic lights) I ended up in Tormurin. It is a rich little shopping village by the sea where I got the ferry home from. I stood on the grass while waiting for the ferry and tried to use my 'Poi'. I did alright and am sure I will get better with practice but just need to persevere.

I was again amazed (got to find another word to describe that) with how green the grass and trees are. Everywhere to me looks like someone has just enlarged a to-scale model! Even San Fransisco from the ferry on the return looked like little cardboard cut-outs!

I returned to the hostel and helped prepare tonights free meal with Pete (Oz) & Allesyo (Italian) - Pasta Pesto with salad and bread. I had wanted to help as will need to help cook food on the Death Valley tour, but also want to learn to cook while I am away. A quick shower and change made me realise that I hadn't put enough sun cream on (I did apply it a couple of times), especially on the tops of my hands and feet! Oh well, hopefully I'll even my tan out in San Diego or Fiji. Dinner was nice - sat with Warren (Portsmouth and two girls from Reading. They had also been on a bike ride today too, and invited me along to the cinema but i really don't think my legs can take much more - need to do some stretching yoga on the beach tomorrow I think.

p.s. the pictures have come out ok on a cd, just need to find somewhere where I can attach them.
