So today I had a walk round downtown Vancouver to familiarise myself with the city, it had helped that I had a good look at the map in the guide book as didn't want to stick out like a lost tourist too much! So I walked everywhere today - from about 10.30 til 6pm without a break for lunch. From Jamie's apartment it is about a 15 minute walk across the bridge over the creek and is a spectacular view to start the day with. I followed Granville St, across to Seymour St which are both similar streets with lots of traffic lights, shops, eateries and clubs. I have stopped myself from going into any shops as I can go anywhere in the world and see things that I really want (for me or for as gifts for others) but really can't afford!.

The walk down Water St (which used to be under water) is pretty as it has nice boutiques, cobbled floor and the Gas Clock which is powered by steam that chimes though I couldn't figure out where the nose was coming from. This is where a lot of the night life is apparently and this is near to where one of the hostels I was going to stay was. I took a right onto Carnall St where I did feel slightly uncomfortable about the amount of homeless and obviously high people so I moved on quickly. Went past the Canada Rail Station which is a pretty impressive building in itself, then onto Canada Place which looks a bit like the Sydney Opera House, in which there is a 3D Imax cinema. I watched Sharks 3D which was funny, I kept having to put my hand out to stop the jellyfish from hitting my face - it didn't work though.

Robson St was my next move - this is a heaven for a keen shopper of my age though I still managed to stay out of the shops, but nearly went into Rockie Mountain Chocolate Factory where they were making a block of fudge the size of my thigh - yum. I then followed Denman St (where there was a shop called Amy's Loonie Toonie Town Shop - how perfect for me), and then onto Davie St where I wanted to see the only gays in the village! The bus stops, bins and post boxes are painted bright pink! All the way up the hill, and down again and back along Granville St. - over the bridge to Granville Island and it's beautiful Public Market with every fresh food imaginable and stalls selling cooked food from all over the world. Today I had my favorite, Greek Chicken Pitta with Tatziki for only about two quid in the relaxed cafe looking over the creek, with a local playing his guitar. That's the way I like it.

Back at the apartment the jet lag (or actually probably the exercise that I am not used to) sent me to sleep very quickly.
