Well, I know that I am sitting in my living room and not exactly traveling and not exactly in Guatemala...but I am thinking about it, so that does count right? It's a good reason to hop back on the blog?
Have I updated everyone about news I heard shortly after returning from Guatemala? Some people have heard. Maybe you haven't. Do you remember stories about Josue? The little 2 year old boy who has trouble eating and is severely malnourished due to problems with swallowing? Josue came to the orphanage about 4 months ago, needing to gain 10 pounds in order to have a surgery that will help him eat, so he can gain more weight. While at the orphanage, we saw how much Josue struggled to eat; how most of his food and bottle was coming out of his nose vs being swallowed. Sara and I helped teach the orphanage stafff how to fee this little guy. While we were there the last day we saw an improvement in his eating by some of the strategies they learned from us. There was not nearly the amount of food going back out of his nose...he was able to swallow food and keep it down.
Two weeks after we returned home, I talked with Betty, who works at the orphanage...she told me that Josue had gained 2 pounds in the 2 weeks since we left. TWO POUNDS IN TWO WEEKS! whoohoo!!! Praise the Lord!!! if he keeps this up, he may be ready for life-altering (life saving??) surgery in a couple more months!!!
It's the little things. What we shared with them seemed to be so basic. But to Josue....I think it was something bigger.
That leads me to the other point of todays blog. We're going back! And we'd love to bring a few more people along with us!!!
Have a skill....like being able to provide a hug or a smile? or a little bit more like being a nurse, or a therapist or something?
Want to experience a different culture?
have a small sense of adventure?
if you can say yes to two to three of the above, you might consider contacting me about our developing plans to return to the orphanage in February 2013.
It might change your life. It might not. But it will change the life of a child...and probably yours too.
send me an email, or give me a call for more info....
