Thanks for your prayers for Alex as well! Betty is on her way to see him tonight...he went through surgery last night, and was sent home from the hospital earlier this afternoon.
From yesterday feeling as if we might have more to do than possible in one week, we began to feel like we are in a really good place today. We returned this morning and worked with some of the same kids as yesterday, starting with training the orphanage staff on some of the techniques that they can employ with the kids. They really are great, and are so eager to learn, and ask great questions! One of our highlights has been to see Kayla really progress quickly in just 2 days! Yesterday, initially when seated on the floor she essentially refused to move---and really hated the idea of crawling..got a little mad at as for suggesting it to her. Eventually yesterday she got the idea of crawling--then crawled herself over to the walker, pulled herself up on it, and TOOK OFF!!! This kid is now on the go, whether crawling, walking with a device or one hand of an adult, or using furniture. Not much is really stopping her! (The staff is excited to see her move...I think deep down they may not love this new mobility of hers..). One of the other exciting things has been to do a total "hogar" makeover--Guatemalan orphanage edition. Until now there really has not been a good, safe place for the babies/toddlers to play...and no real toys to play with. It's been amazing to see both Kayla take off today--and the toy room take shape. For that we need to thank the many people who sent toys with us as well as the donated walker. We also needed to seek assistance from the speech therapists that we work with....thanks everyone for coming along with us!!!
