we woke up early today, so we could beat the crowds to go to Sentosa Island. We had been advised to go via cable car, as it was the prettiest way to go. We hired a taxi and arrived early. There was no queue at all to buy tickets or to board the cable car, which was unexpected as the queue at Hong Kong cabe car was hours long both ways.
The view was spectacular from the cable car, and you could opt for a glass bottom one if you wanted. The halfway point was in the middle of an office building, which was werid as it was a normal offie building, with workers, and here we were, going through a whole cut in the side of it.
Once we arrived at Sentosa island, we decided to go to the lookout. We followed some people there and it wasn't very far. You could take a series of escalators up there. What was good with the escaltors, was that when nobody was on them, they would slow down dramatically, almost at a standstill to save power.
The lookout view was much the same as the view from the cable car, so we decided to explore more. There is so much to do on the island, but we didn't have much time. We decided to go to the "Merlion", an attraction that could be seen from the cable car. it was a huge, eight-storey lion with the tail of a mermaid. It was to signify Singapore's past as a fishing country, and it's modern present.
We went inside the Merlion, as the open mouth was a viewing area.
After we had taken many pictures, we went back down and made our way to the cable car agin. On the way, there was a man who had a snake. He offered to put it on me and take pictures. I declined, with my fear of snakes quite large. On second thoughts, I went back to do it. i was very scared as the snake was moving lots and lots. I was glad that I did it.
After Sentosa island, we decided to go shopping as we hadn't bought much for anyone back home. We had heard that Little India market was good, so we took the taxi there. Little India was quite nice, but there wasn't much there that we would be allowed to take through Customs. Many shops had Buddahs for sale, which we wouldn't want anyway. We eventually found so things that people at home would appreciate. From there, we decided to walk back to the hotel, and on the way we found a plaza. Then the rain came down. It poured and poured until we were all wet through. There was a little market just outside. We looked through there for awhile, but eventually progressed to the shopping centre. We stayed there for about an hour, and did as many floors as we could.
Exhausted, we had lunch and went back to our room, still wet. By this time, we only had time to have a shower and pack before the Singapore Airlines bus would come to pick us up. We had time to have dinner, and check out, and we still had spare time. We hung out in the lobby until the bus came. The bus was a little late, and still needed to go to another hotel, so we were worried that we would be late for our flight. We needn't have worried. There was absolutely no queue for check in or immigration, so we had time to use our last Singapore dollars in the airport. We even went down to our gate, which was still an hour from opening. By the time our gate opened, there was a large queue, as there was a flight to Paris at a time near ours, so we were thankful that we came so early. All the airport security staff put themselves through security, and when one of them beeped, the would take off their shoes, put them through the x-ray, and then walk through again. They were so thorough on each other.
We boarded the plane right up the back, and settled in for a long flight.
