Rebecca invited us over to her house today, which was so lovely. I was looking forward to seeing her parents and Sammy again, and to see her apartment. Rebecca's father's driver picked us up after breakfast, and drove us to her apartment. Luckily, there was a minivan, so we could all fit in, otherwise it would have been a tight journey! We reached her apartment quickly, as it wasn't too far from the hotel. Her apartmet was 14 floors up, and was beautiful. We walked in, and their coffee table was full of fruits, lollies and drinks.
Her parents were all prepared, with the right amount of glasses and forks for the fruits. I enjoyed all the fruit, as most of it, like the mango, strawberries and papaya are not in season back home. Rebecca treated us to a tour of her house. It was quite spacious, and it was really nicely decorated. We all sat around, eating and drinking with her parents and their driver. It did not matter that there was a language barrier between my parents and Rebecca's, as they all got along famously. Dad even jumped on the net and showed them our house. We invited them to come and stay in our house if they ever come to Australia. Rebecca gave us presents. They were so generous. Mum recieved two jade bangles, which fit her perfectly. We wanted to buy some traditional jade bangles but weren't sure where to go to buy real jade, so the present was perfect. I got some leather purses, Laura, a beautiful pen, Hayley, a chinese-english electronic dictionary and Elyse got a Swarkovski crystal. Dad got a huge wall-hanging done by a famous calligrapher. it was an original
. All the presents were perfect to the suitor, and we overwhelmed by their generosity. We moved on to the restaurant. Sammy and Faye joined us for the lunch. The lunch was delicious. Once again, we were able to try a selection of Chinese foods that we had never eaten before, like a soup inside a dumpling-like pastry which you ate by sticking a straw in the middle and sucking. The lunch was relaxing, and was good, too. We talked about Sammy and Faye's upcoming wedding and the differences between a Chinese and western wedding. Sammy and Faye gave us gifts, too. We all got some pretty things to go in our hair, and the boys got numchuckers. Mum and Dad got a full tea set, which we admired at the tea house yesterday. We are so lucky.
The way we got Rebecca and Sammy was so lucky. The day that we advertised the job of a chinese tutor at their uni, within half an hour there was 30 calls. The only call that Dad answered in time was Rebecca's, and it has turned out to be even better than we ever imagined. From Rebecca, we got Sammy and now Linnia. Each so special, and so helpful. Without them, I don't know what I would do. We are so lucky to have Sammy and Rebecca help us throughout our time in China. Whenever we needed them, they were there. Lunch finished too quickly, and after the sad, final good-byes, we drove to the market.
We just had a last-minute shop to buy clean clothes to wear on the plane tomorrow, and to get some last minute gifts. We shopped until late, so we took the subway back, and had dinner on the way. We spent the night packing and weighing the suitcases. We will probably need to buy a new suitcase to fit in all our purchases.
The lady at the airport in Melbourne made a mistake in telling us that we actually were allowed 25 kilos (20 with a grace of 5), as we will definitly need it. Going home tomorrow. It will be a big day. I'm so sad to go home, but I miss everybody. I'll let you know how the plane flights are tomorrow. For now, I'll need all the sleep I can get.
