Friday Night

Tonight was a very different night. Coming home after the long day was tiring after a three hour traffic jam. The bus driver ended up kicking us out and making us walk a couple of kilometres. It ended quit unlike Shirley's tour where even though she lived 2 hours away, she wanted to finish her job and make sure we were back, safe at the hotel. We were drenched from the rain and the snow, so we just had nice, warm showers and changed into tracksuit pants and jumpers. Shirley, the teacher from school, wanted desperately to take us out for dinner, so we decided that maybe just mum and dad go. Shirley and her sister came up to our room, and begged for us kids to go. She said that she booked a room and we could sing and dance. She was inisitant, so we changed out of tracksuit pants to jeans, but kept our wet hair. It was just a local restaurant, after all. I had spoken too soon. Her sister drove us to the restaurant, chatting with me the whole way. She didn't speak any English, so it was good Chinese practise. Once we reached the restaurant, a man opened the door for us. That doesn't usually happen at regular restaurants. We walked upstairs and opened the door to our private room. Shirley was so eager to break out the karaoke. The TV was turned on, and about 4 of our staff joined in. They danced, sang and clapped along with us, but as soon as you subtly put your empty glass down, it would be refilled in less than a minute. It was a fun night. Her older sister showed us the splits, and she danced with Elyse. This was all to thank mum, dad and us for helping her with her American applications. This just shows that sometimes, when you doing something for someone, you don't realise how much it affects them until later on.
