Friday--last day of school

Today was our last day of school :( It was do sad to say good-bye to everyone. We arrived at school freezing. It was raining and the classrooms were so cold. Dad, James and Craig went to a dental surgery where Dad worked on Ian Knowles's teeth. [PHOTO_ID_L=p3210635.jpg We had Chinese class first, where we gave the teacher a pen and a keychain with Aboriginal paintings on it. I think she liked it, but she was obviously not expecting it. We gave one to our English teacher and our maths teacher. Our maths teacher gave Laura and me a traditional Chinese game each in return. It is similar to a hacky-sack, I think. Our English teacher was so thankful, and was eager to know our plans for the next week. We had a Chinese culture class, which I don't think that we have had before. We had maths, then, and the maths teacher let us have a good-bye party. It was fun. Some of our classmates put on a show for us. They were dancing, one girl, nicknamed 'little star' did the cha cha amazingly. She knew she was good, too. They had aerobic dancers, and rapped in Chinese. it was really cute and such a nice surprise for us. We then got back to work. One girl, during class, gave Laura and I each a little statue of the Great Wall and a mirror. One mirror is small and cute, the other one is large and is supposed to be what the Queen used. It was all so nice. lunchtime came really quickly, and we met for lunch in the staff room again. We showed mum our presents which included a phone decoration, pen and a mock (mobile phone sock) with an Olypic mascot, Huanhuan on it. There are 5 Olympic mascots; Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini. It translates into 'Welcome to Beijing'. After lunch, we had science class for two periods. They were studying animals and creatures in general, so Laura and I were asked to talk about kangaroos. After science, it was 'club' time. This happens every Friday afternoon. People go to whichever club they are in and study. We went to English club. We got to go down to the lecture theatre and listen to a guest speaker---Mum! She did 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' again, but for the older kids, it wasn't cool to do the actions. It was amusing, however, to see how they copied Mum's speech. She would yell; "Oh-no!" and they would too, as close as they could. Mum also read the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' as the kids munched on chocolate eggs. They would squeal with delight as they saw what the caterpillar was going to eat next. Then, mum asked the six volunteers in me, Laura, Hayley, Elyse, James and Craig to come up on stage and answer questions. They asked things like 'how old are you?' 'what chores do you do at home?' 'what are your hobbies?' and 'do you like our school?' They would stand up to ask us the questions, like they did in the classroom. James and Elyse were being sily on stage, sitting on each other's knee, and when one would stand up, the other would pull out their chair, etc. It had the kids in absolute hysterics. One child told me afterwards that she thought that she was in a movie cinema for a moment! We finished up, and walked back to get our bags. It was then end of he day, and I was getting smothered in kisses and shouts of 'we'll miss you so much'. I really hope that they had a good time with us here, like we did. They gave me their emails for if I need any help with my Chinese. It was all so sad. I was hugging everyone, and you could see the sadness in their eyes. We walked out to present the Australian flag from Jason Wood to the Head of Foreign Delegations, as the pricipal was unavailable.
They were very thankful. It was so sad to walk out of the school for the last time again, thinking that you will never see those kids again. Even if we did come back next year, they will be in middle school. We went via taxi back to the otel and came up with a plan for the night. We went out to the local market again, although the main section was closed. We still spent at least 20 minutes there, buying handbags ans things for Nanna's kindergarten. We walked on to McDonalds and found a seat upstairs. The mcDonalds staff were falling over themselves to accomodate us. They are so kind.
We got out food, and started eating it when suddenly, the power went out! We sat in complete darkness, although dad was waving his phone around for a little light. It was all so weird, we had no idea what was going on as the shops next door had lights on, as we could see through the windows. Staff members walked around in fluoro jackets, telling people to stay calm. We finished our dinner, and walked out. We bought some cute animals for Dominique and Alex back home from a stall outside McDonalds. We couldn't see what the colours were, though, so we just picked them based on the animal. Dad and Craig bought some DVDs at AUD80 cents each, to test them out. Shh! Craig wanted some water, then, so the others went back to the hotel and Craig, Dad and I went to the supermarket. They found Diet coke, which they both jumped at, and water with KitKats strapped to them. They then found a huge 24 pack of water, which Craig offered to carry.
It looked so heavy! We went back to the hotel and collapsed. It had been a really exhausting day.
