Today we were able to sleep in. We took advantage of the fact that we had no immediate plans, so we opted for a later breakfast. Breakfast was a buffet of a mixture of traditional Chinese food and western food like pancakes. After we finished, we went back to our room to clean our teeth before we set outside. We wanted to go back to the SIM card shop as the cards weren't working. It was freezing outside compared to the heated hotel rooms, so Laura and Elyse, who were wearing t-shirts, were uncomfortable. We worked out the SIM card problem and went back to the hotel room to get some jumpers. We wanted to go to a market, and we remembered that there was a nearby market that we went with Nana and Pa and Nanna Joan in 2007.We tried to remember which way it was. We walked for a long time and decided that even if we didn't find the market that it was a nice walk anyway. As we walked, we found that we were the object of much staring from the children as we went by. As we are not in the centre of Beijing, there are not many tourists here as there would be closer to the middle of the city. We walked for awhile before we found the market. We browsed in the market for awhile, picking up little things here and there. We were tired though, so we soon went back to the hotel for lunch. In our hotel room, we ate soup which we bought from home. We went on the internet for a little while, talking to dad and updating and uploading things. From there, we got ready for our dinner with our old tutors, Rebecca and Sammy.
It was so exciting to see them both again. They both have new jobs and Rebecca had a new haircut. We went to a restaurant within walking distance to our hotel. As there was so many of us, we got our own little room in the back of the restaurant.
Rebecca and Sammy ordered food for us, which they did a good job of doing. We ate everything that was brought before us, and it was really delicious. Sammy, who has a job in the tourism industry had organised Hutong tours and a hike to the Great Wall for us. She said that her boss said that she could come with us to the Great Wall, which is exciting.
Sammy also said that she is taking us to the school on Monday, and is taking the morning off for us. Rebecca noticed on our calendar that we had just one day off, so she invited us to come to her house. We are looking forward to that so we can thank her mum for all the mandarins she bought us.
The conversation was easy and we had the best time. I was so happy to see them again. We stayed in the private room for hours before we decided to leave. The chefs waved to us as we walked out.
We bought ice-creams on the walk back before Rebecca and Sammy took a taxi back home. I can't wait until we meet up with them again. It was a great night.
