The last few weeks have been fun filled and incredibly busy. Study has been consistently busy as well, and my mind is overflowing with new characters.
I have tried the famous 'cupping' massage with Ian and Emily, where the masseuse places several suction cups on your body, in order to suck excess water and toxins out of your body.  I wasn't expecting them to do that when I first agreed to the massage, but it wasn't so bad.  I didn't enjoy it too much, it wasn't painful, but it was certainly not comfortable.  They left huge, circular bruises on my legs, which were only supposed to last 1-2 days, but nearly a week later, I was still putting foundation make up on my knees to hide it.
I have also had to start staying good bye to a good friend who is leaving.  Melissa has joined me on so many of my adventures, and I don't know what I'm going to do without my travel buddy! Melissa has got a scholarship for Cambridge University in England, so she's heading home to Canada beforehand to get ready.  I'm so proud of her, but am sad that I have to see her go.  We had a class going away dinner last Monday, which was really nice.  It's not often that you can get the majority of the class to go out together, but I really enjoyed it.
Melissa and I went with another couple of friends to another friend's apartment off campus to cook dinner later that week.  I had not had a home cooked dinner like that in over 3 months, and it was absolutely delicious! It was really nice to have food knowing exactly what was in it!
We also finally took our panda onesie pictures, which was met with less confusion by passers-by than  I expected.  I guess in China, everything is acceptable, even two girls running around in identical panda suits!
Thursday was the big good bye day, and I tearfully accompanied Mel to the airport with another couple of friends.  It is hard to think that this is just the beginning of many good byes I'll have to make, with the very real possibility that I may never see many of these friends again. Australia is not really a stopover country; it is a long, long way from most other countries, and my next few years are booked full with university commitments, so it will just be Skype dates for the next little while.
I have kept the rest of my time busy going out with friends; trying new restaurants and experiencing a bit more of the nightlife around my area. Most of my afternoons at the moment are filled with practice for our class performance next week.  Each class is performing a piece for the other classes, and my classmate is determined to ensure that ours outshines all the others. With a choreographed piece that includes nun chucks, fan martial arts, tai chi, calligraphy, singing and maybe a little bit of Psy's Gentlemen dance, I think it's fair to say that we have come up with something very different and special compared to the other classes, who are just planning on singing words off a sheet of paper. If you're wondering, I am just in the back, waving my arms around, happy to let the musically talented and martial arts trained classmates take center stage. I will update you next week on how the performance actually goes.
