Austria is definitely high up on my travel list. I had so much fun there. I kicked off my arrival in Austria by going to dinner with some friends and having apple strudle and a massive schnitzel. In fact the schnitzel was so big that the restaurant gave myself and another girl a doggie bag full of food.
Since we were in Austria a group of people and I decided to do a cycling and wine tour through the wine regions of Austria. It was somewhat of a suprise to discover that Austria actually had a wine region and so we all thought we had better check it out. It was so much fun, I really had the best day. We kicked it off at a winery and after sampling many wines we jumped on our bikes and headed off the next village. At some point along the way, a girl thought it would be fun to sing songs from the Sound of Music, and I can say honestly that the hills were alive with the sound of music as we cycled along. With the enthusiasm that comes from exercise and too much wine, we made our way from village to village sampling wine, chocolates and jam.
By the end of the day we all decided that we were old mates and so made our way to a bar upon our return to Vienna to reminiss about the day and our friendship. It was a top night. Not only did the bar play some good old Aussie classics, noone seemed to mind that we danced and danced beside the bar. The other good thing was that I managed to beat some ongoing opponents at cards. We had been playing the same card game since Cescky Krumlov and I had lost all games. By a stroke of good fortune, I defeated them however it's fair to say I wasn't gracious in winning. This didn't seem to matter however when I was beaten resoundingly by them at fooseball.
The next day I headed into Vienna to check out the city. I wasn't disappointed, it was glorious. Not only were the building picture post card perfect, there were people dressed in period costumes which added to the beauty and the atmosphere of the city. Eventually I came to the most beautiful rose garden I have ever seen. The garden was sprawling and every I looked I saw the huge roses in every colour I could think of. I lingered in the garden and even went out of my way to walk through it again before heading home. The best part was that you could smell the roses before you even got to the garden. On my return home, my old mates advised that we were going to dinner and then to an amusement park. After such a good day this was icing on the cake. I can't remember laughing as much as I did on the rides at the amusement park. It was about the size of Dreamworld but had all the rides you find at a usual show. I was lucky that one of the boys was feeling as excited as I was and came on all the rides with me. I went on rollercoasters, water rides and a ride which was sufficiently fast and spinning to make as all squeal like little kids. Oh unhindered joy!
