I arrived in Paris after a short flight from Glasgow.
After making my way from the airport to the city via the metro, I stopped off at the advised stop and promptly got lost. Luckily for me there were two little old ladies sitting by the river to interrupt and asked for directions. It turned out that they had nothing better to do than help me which they did very obligingly. One of the ladies sat with me and chatted about how wonderful Paris is and the other one went on a recon mission to locate the hostel. After about half an hour the old lady returned and declared she couldn't find it but we might as well all take a walk to find it as she thought she knew the general direction. So the two little old ladies and I set off to find the hostel. One of them even offered to carry my 14 kilo bag which I declined. We soon came upon the hostel and they left me at the front step with warnings on walking by myself and the dangers of pickpockets.
The next day with their warnings ringing in my ears I headed out by myself and visited the Louvre, Notre Dame and went window shopping on the Champs de lyesee. I liked all of them and spent some time sitting by the Seine reading and eating a baguette. At length I returned home and went to dinner at the Latin quarter with some girls at the hostel. We had a really nice time and lived it up a little. Over the next couple of days I did everything one is meant to in Paris, namely: - Went up the Eiffel Tower - Went on a boat ride down the river Seine - Visited the Palace of Versaille (highly recommended to everyone)
- Went and saw millions of bones at the catacombs; and - Ate and drank at very fashionable restuarants I also discovered that the French do actually say ooolala. I didn't believe it at first until I heard it a second time. I decided by the end of my time that I did like Paris. The weather was beautiful and it was hard not to like a place where you can sit at a cafe for 2 hours reading and not be kicked out. More thumbnails ...
