After Ica we made our way down to Nasca, home of the famous Nasca lines.
We took a flight in a small 6 seater plane over the lines which was amazing. We saw an astronaut, monkey, dog and other figures sketched into the desert sand. The Nasca airport is the busiest airport in Peru because so many tourist fly over the lines each day. There were no safety precautions before taking off. We sat on the runway until the pilot told us to get in. As soon as we got in he took off. We also checked out the cemetary of Chauchilla which I would recommend to anyone. THe mummies are sitting on the graves as they were dug up by grave robbers decades ago. You can wander through the cemetary and pick up pieces of human bones and clothes from about 1000 years ago. The Peruvian government hasn{t allocated much money here so conservation isn{t the best. It was a strange and fancinating place particularly because we were the only people there with all the mummies.
Our taxi driver come guide was pretty fun although he apparently thought he was a rally driver racing through the desert. The only other exciting thing that happened here was that Dave and the boys tried a traditional drink of Peru which is made from the spit of virgins. I'm not sure they liked the drink and told me they could feel the gollies going down the back of their throats. Niiiiiiiice. We got on overnight bus from here to Arequipa with Cruz Del Sur which is the nicest bus company we have ever travelled with. You get reclining seats, meals, a host, bingo and movies in English.
