Ica is a town a few hours south of Lima. We stopped and stayed here on our way to Nasca.
We ended up staying at Huachachina, which is an oasis settlement in the middle of the desert. It is a cool (or should I say hot) place to stay as it is a lagoon surrounded by towering sand dunes. A lot of people come here for sand boarding but we basically lay around the pool. In the evening we climbed the highest sand dune to watch the sun set with some people we met at the hostel. The sunset was amazing and we watched it set over the desert. Because there was only a little town in the desert we were able to see amazing stars.
