Yosemite National Park

After a long drive from Lake Tahoe considering crashes, snow and ice on the road and Hwy 49 (very up down and many corners but very scenic) we made it at about 7.30pm. We were winging the accommodation and turned up on the doorstep of a Western Inn just outside Yosemite National Park. Accommodation in the park after a few phone calls was way overpriced.
Slept and woke early to travel about another hour to visitors lodge in Yosemite. Had to practice my rally driving skills on the icy roads.
There is soo much snow everywhere. They have had an unusually large amount of snow here. Everything is covered in 4 foot of snow.
We arrived at Yosemite about 9pm having not seen anyone on the roads and or walking around. A little strange considering the Park gets 3.4million visitors a year.
We were the first and only people in the Visitors centre besides the ranger (Shelton) who was able to give us some great tips and plan our day in the Park. He told us that we had arrived at an extremely special time with snow falling on the valley floor (not common) and little to no visitors despite the park having much to offer. He also said that winter was the best time to visit the park with the snow making the place even more beautiful.
We saw all the sites El Captain, Half Dome, Arches, Mirror Lake, Three Brothers, all with snow highlighting them. All where literally breathtaking and unable to be put into words. We hiked to each.
We basically had this place to ourselves. Yosemite National Park to ourselves!!!!!!
This would have to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I couldn't help but shake my head at the awe inspiring peaks, trees, lakes, creeks, bridges, etc. etc. Hopefully when we are able to upload the photos you will get an idea of what I'm going on about. 'Pristine Snow Wilderness'.
We left the park late and made our way to Sonora which is 'Queen to Southern Miners'. We drove through this town on the way to the park and reckoned it looked pretty cool. So here we are. Had some great food last night at the local grill which was recommend to us. Tried some local wine, beer and grub. Yum!
About to explore the town this morning and head to Monterey Pebble Beach this afternoon.
Having fun and starting to really get into it having been on holiday now for a week and a half.
