Shit Storm
Entry 58 of 64 | show all | print this entry |
Well, I made it home. Let the shit storm begin! While I have been gone, we have moved, school has started, skiing has started, I have under gone some reverse culture shock, I discover I can't ski on mud, our boat doesn't have perfect pass and it's my birthday. I'm 23, aparently in the US that's old, like sort your life out old. So here I am, still in the mindset of the English youth, the lifestyle of a skibum, and all I have fits in a 90" 3event bag, not to mention I'm broke and jobless. Jason and my room mate from Spain, Kelsey picked me up at the airport with flowers, american peanut butter and water (no liquids on the plane!). Well, since we have moved, I don't know my address and my phone isn't turned on yet and it's Wednesday evening... one thing to do... go to Henry T's! (since the begining of history, everyone gos to T's for 30cent wing night). So we go meet up with everyone (I was sooo freekin' excited to see them!!) and after I near orgasm over Ranch dressing, haven't seen it in almost a year now, we head to the new homestead! Ok, so I've been warned about the house. Its old (duh), and in the ghetto (duh), and my room is microscopic (hello, I've been living in a caravan!) and it's the coziest place on the planet!! It's so cute. Since the guys either graduated, or faked it, or are getting married or couldn't handle us...its just us girls. Amy, Emily, Caite, Carin, Jackie, and Sam. So, more to the shit storm, my tiny room is full of boxes of stuff I've lived with out for so long now I don't want it and obviously won't handle my skibag so I just live out of the living room and sleep on the couch. Thursday was a big head ache as well. All I want to do is hang out with my mates but I have to sort shit out with school, and dig around in my room and get my phone sorted and ahhhh. I miss the simple ski school life. But, luckly my hero mommy came to help. I got sick of organizing... or trying to, so I headed to the lake. Yes, drove to the lake, weird. Mom met me there. Our boat doesn't have perfect pass. Yet another addition to the shit storm ( the biggest headache so far if you ask me). So I just tricked, yeehaw. And later that evening thanks to my good buddies Todd and Brian, got a slalom set in. Yeah, don't wanna talk about it.... Have you ever gone from cold fast water and a LPG ran boat to really really warm muddy water and a 6 litre ? It's a bit frustrating to say the least. Like, I couldn't help but laugh. If it had been a jump set, I might have died. But I needed it, it'll just take some time to adjust. So, after that nightmare I discover that I'm late for my Spain reunion on Mass Street. So, mom and I went home, I changed and we headed down town. Example #1 of reverse culture shock- you should have seen the look on mom's face when I ordered a bottle (not glass) or red wine with out any hesitation before even looking at the menu. Damn, bottles of wine are expensive in this country!! Shit! What happened to 1 Euro 20!!?? Anyway, everyone from Santiago was there. It was great to see them. They were like " I can't believe you just got home, like we've all adjusted and everything and you just got here!" Yeah, so... wanna catch me up in school, I'm a little behind, ha! After the reunion, tapas, and vino tinto. We go home to discover that every Thursday is Girls night in my house. Not just girls night, but champagne night, just because we're fancy and we can! Ha! I love it! So every girl in the room has their own bottle! We just sat in the living room drinking our fancy bubbly and talking about the summer... skiing, jobs, flings.... and then the Boys show up. "Hello?"says Catie, "You don't live with us anymore!" ha! Well, they all came in and we headed to the Hawk. Mom, bless her, headed to bed. You know, nothing says welcome back to KU like going to the hawk. Yes, 23 and it's still fun. (Hey Bobby's like 25 and it was his idea!) The boom boom room was like a huge welcome home party. Even more ski team kids were there! Well, enough's enough and it's time to head home. I was exhausted! So, being the intelligent drunk that I am, I decide to get out my trusty little travel alarm ( I have no idea how I found it in that bag), set my alarm, sat on the couch in my underwear and turned on the Spanish channel (again, I have no idea how I remembered the channel) and fell asleep. I guess, I figured it's like studying in your sleep. Mom came down in the morning really really confused. Anyway. It's my first day of school. I decided to take my first shower since being back and I'm already late. I walk in and the people I know, snicker, and the others I don't know just look at me like I'm from another planet! Wow, 50 whole minutes of concentration and learning. Yeah right. I can't handle this yet. After class I asked if I needed to meet with my professor and he just said, "No, you have all the literature right?" "si" "And you have friends in this class, if you have friends that's all you need!" Wow, what a cool guy! Hope he stays this cool when I tell him I'm going to Germany next weekend! So after class I went and sat in the athletic directors office sorting my elidgibility and then mom and I ran errands like wild women. I don't know what I'd do with out her! We went to the bank to renew my card. (but that didn't work, because I couldn't remember my address) and we went to Walmart, I almost hugged the greeter lady I was so happy! I love walmart! Then I went to Jefferson's and pleaded for my job back. Score! Got my phone back on and unpacked a little and repacked again! We're goin' southward, ho!
