The plight of the Pandas

After an Anneka Rice style rush to Lanzhou train station from the western reaches of China we managed to board our train to Chengdu. Sharing with two Chinese English teachers we made polite conversation and shared round our various snacks we had for the journey - we think we got a bum deal, as we handed over nice tastey sweets (mmm!) we were offered chicken's feet! Unfortunately we were both full up so had to decline.
Chengdu is in Sichuan and nearby to a few sights; Emei Shan - China's highest mountain covered in bamboos and monkeys. We hiked around for a while but in the end settled for a refreshing beverage and ice cream as the heat got to us.
Leshan - home to China's biggest Buddha (it's about 35 times the size of Amy's cone head)situated ona picturesque river. Pandas - this has been one of the highlights so far. We got up early, as they eat and fall asleep by 9.30am, to see them and it was worth it. We were allowed to get very close but declined the cheesey photo opportunity where you got to hold one. We figured they wouldn't want the stress. More thumbnails ...
