Same thing, different place
Entry 23 of 119 | show all | print this entry |
Yesterday was the first day of my 2-week position as the receptionist for Tokio Marine, an insurance company right in the heard of the City. I came to the office last Friday to just go over the phone system and the basics for the position. It's not a difficult job at all, and sometimes it can get a bit boring since the phones really aren't that busy. However, most of the people are friendly, and I'm just greatful for having work.
It would have been an ok first day, had I not been coming down with a cold. I could definitely feel it starting: headache, sore throat, sniffles, coughing, sneezing, etc... and today it has burst into a full-blown attack on my immune system! I'm absolutely miserable! It's the first virus in a new country, and those always hit the hardest. It makes me remember my first week in Sydney when I got SOOOO ill (much worse than I even feel now). I'm just praying it doesn't get worse, as I have an interview on Thursday for a performing arts academy. It's just difficult to be so ill and be so far away from home. I phoned my parents last night and of course they're worried about me and told me to get lots of fluid, lots of rest, and stay warm. That's about all one's parents can do from 1000s of miles away. For some reason I always feel a bit homesick when I get sick. I wish I could be tucked up into bed with my mom looking after me and her homemade chicken noodle soup to comfort me! Ok, I know I am nearly 23 years old, but come on, when you're sick it makes you feel like a kid again!
In the absence of my mom, Pete has been especially kind and comforting. He gave me some cold medicine and fixed me a vitamin drink. It's nice that he's concerned and is looking out for me... very sweet man.
