Dublin Time!!!
Entry 15 of 50 | show all | print this entry |
So this morning we had to leave the hotel by 2:45am to walk to the bus station and catch a bus to the airport! It sucked because it was the only bus we could took out of that station to get to our flight on time. The morning didnt start off to good, Jackie's debit card got eaten in the ATM because she kept it in there for too long and she only had 15 euros left! Not good!! It was about a 45 minute walk there, the Super Bowl must have just ended because there were lots of people in jerseys on the streets! Found out the Giants won, since we couldnt watch the game ourselves. I slept the whole bus ride since I had only slept 1 1/2 hours before we got up.
At the airport we didnt think they were going to be as strict as they were with bags. We all had a backpack and one other bag and we were told we would have to check one of them! Not like in the US where a purse doesnt count as a carry on!! So that was a bummer!! We even witnessed a lady get turned down through security with a mini suitcase and the smallest purse imaginable!! Oh well! We ate some breakfast and then headed to our gate.
The flight was less than an hour, again I slept! From the sky I could see lots of green fields, golf courses, and mountains!! It was very pretty! Immediately after getting our bags, we were amazed by how friendly the people were!! This man working outside by the buses struck up conversation with us before we got on our bus to our hostel. You could definitely tell which people were from Ireland; their facial features made it very obvious!
Once we got to our hostel, located right in Temple Bar area, the happening spot in Dublin, we locked up our stuff and headed to the streets! We helped this man with a bike full of food up the curb of the street. Like I said before everyone is very friendly here and he must have stood and talked to us for a good 20 minutes!! We just wondered around all day, going in stores, and ending in the grocery store for dinner and drinks! I bought some Bulmer's, requested by my best friend Heather, and the four of us got a pony keg to share for our 2 night stay.
Back at the hostel, we were bunked in a coed room with 7 other people. There was a guy from Colorado, Australia, a creeper from Ireland, and a group of people around age from Belgium! Everyone was very nice, minus there creeper looking at all of our stuff, thank god for locks!! We played cards and drank with a few of our new friends and then headed to Temple Bar!! It was a fun night out with everyone and fun to meet new people from different places and learn things about them. For instance, Ryan from Australia refers to his friends as "mates." I thought that was cool! And getting "pissed", is getting drunk to Australians too. haha. The kids from Belgium spoke some broken English, a couple didnt speak it at all, but they were all very nice! I cant think of anything they would say off the top of my head right now that was different.
Overall a fun night out!!
Things in Dublin: -very friendly and talkative people -definitely a town full of pubs and bars -still drive on the wrong side of car and road -you could tell by looking at the buildings all the history the city holds -city is much larger than I imagined -everyone drinks!!
