LONDON!!!
Entry 11 of 50 | show all | print this entry |
We got into London safely early this morning! The airport was super clean and seemed really new. We flew into Stansted which was about an hour away from our hotel in Kensington, London. It was crazy to hear all the British accents, gotta love that!! The cool thing I noticed in the airport was the Cadbury vending machines!! It was awesome!! If you think there is only Cadbury eggs, you got it all wrong!! They have all different flavors of chocolate and different types of cookies!!! I thought that was pretty cool!
I slept the whole ride on the bus until we got into London. It was absolutely beautiful and almost seemed like a fairy tale land and very futuristic! The architecture of the buildings was amazing and driving on the opposite side of the car and road was insanely crazy and difficult to get used to. As we drove through central London to get to our hotel, we saw all these huge, pretty buildings lit up, the London Eye, and Big Ben! It was just a jaw dropping sight to see!! Once we got to the bus station we had to take a taxi to our hotel. Then at the hotel, that was quite an experience! Julie and Justine went to check-in while Jackie and I waited outside because we only booked one room with a double bed for 2 people. Jackie and I just walked in 10 minutes later like we were already staying there, and it worked! We searched the floors and then finally one of the workers told us which room they went to because we just asked where our friends were staying. He told us and we were good to go! The room was awesome!! One double bed for all 4 of us! Awesome brick building view out the window!! Haha!! We chilled for awhile and then all 4 of us squeezed in the bed, which didnt turn out to be that bad. We woke up at 8 to go get continental breakfast and again acted dumb because only 2 of us were supposed to get in. They caught us and we told them that 4 of us were squeezing into the small room and they just laughed!! So we lucked out!! Since the British pound is extremely over priced compared to the US dollar, we decided every morning we would eat as much as possible to avoid eating lunch, then we took ham, bread, and cheese to make sandwiches for later!! Sweet!! We all got ready then and left to go check-out the double decker tour bus. We found an awesome one that was very cheap and included 2 days on the bus. We basically saw everything today: London Eye, Big Ben, the Parliment buildings, Buckingham Palace, Soho, Kensington Gardens where Princess Diana lived, the writer of Peter Pan's house, London Bridge, this huge open air market, cathedrals, Thames River, Trialfagar Square, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Millenium Walking Bridge, Harrod's, National Gallery!!! We got off the bus at the National Gallery, all art, because it was free admission, so we walked around there for awhile too!! Then in the open air market, you were able to sample everything from olive oil, to cheese, fish, meat, jam, chocolate, wine, juice, you name it!! It was awesome!! I have never tasted better cheese in my whole life!! I wanted to buy some but for less than 1/4 inch slice it would have cost me 23 pounds, which is almost $50!! The tour included head phones that we could wear to hear a history of everything we were seeing and driving by! It was an amazing tour that I would recommend to anyone wanting to see all there is to see in London!! It especially helped us get used to where things were located too!!
Then we headed back to the hotel because the buses stopped running at 6. We chilled for awhile, drank tea which you have to do while in England, ate our dinner the good old ham and cheese sandwiches, and played cards. Tomorrow we are getting up early to see the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace!! Overall a very successful day!!
Much more to come!!
