Sorry for not posting in awhile, I have been without internet at my apartment since I think Sunday! So I have been utilizing the internet, here at school, and the cyber cafe down the street from me.
On Sunday I went to the Cathedral for mass at one. The church is absolutely beautiful and huge!!!! High, vaulted ceilings, with such detail and wonderful statues and monuments!!! I got there early before mass started and just stared at it all!! You can't take pictures once inside the church, but I did sneak a few on my cell phone, oops!!! There were quite a few people at the mass. It was said in Spanish by the bishop, which was awesome!!! I might not have known what exactly was being said, but at least I knew what would be going on in English!! It was cool because it was a little different than a mass I would go to at home!! During the time of the mass when you say peace to everyone, after you shake heads with everyone around you, if you want, the bishop comes to the bottom of the steps and will except peace from the people at the mass. Everyone just lined up to shake his hand! I thought that was really cool!! Also, when it was time for communion, instead of getting up row by row, everyone just gets up informally and proceeds to take communion. It was really strange!!
Also that weekend, I dont know if I posted this before, but my madre's youngest son was home for the weekend. His name is Sirvando and he goes to school and works in Malaga. He was very nice and helped me to better understand his mom, because she talks extremely fast and said that even sometimes he doesnt understand her. On Sunday Guadalupe's sister came over and I got to meet her as well. She comes over every Sunday to help do things around the house, she told me.
School is very boring and we don't do very much. Everything is review, which is nice, but a lot of the people in my class seem very snobby and act like they know it all. Everyone dresses up to class everyday, I thought this was a big deal at first, but now I decided I really dont care what I look like or wear because dressing up for class is not me at all, as most of you know!!!! Right now we only have tomorrow and Monday and Tuesday for class and then we are off until February 7th!!!!! Which means vacation!!!!!! To London and Dublin!!! I am going with 2 other girls from ISU and one girl we met from Minnesota!!! I am very very excited for me first trip!!!!!!
I have been running a lot too!!! Sometimes in the park and then sometimes around the city!! I love running around the city and seeing all the sights and monuments!!! It is a beautiful city with lots to do and see!!! It is also very hilly and mountainous!!! It is fun running up some of the hillier parts of town, especially seeing the view of the city too!!! Last night I joined a gym that I have been working out at and taking spinning classes at!!! Spinning is totally awesome and such a great workout!!! If you think I sweet alot when I run, you havent seen nothing!!!
Everything Guadalupe has made so far has been great!!! Lots of soups, all different kinds, meat for pigs, not really similar to ham, always bread, and always fruit!!! My favorite meal so far was from Tuesday!! She made a dish similar to paella, which is a dry rice mixture with either different kinds of fish, sausage or both. The dish she made was more like a soup with squid and shrimp, rice noodles, and veggies!! It was sooo good!! I had seconds for sure!!!! I havent really eaten out at all, except for tapas last Friday. I am hoping to eat out this weekend sometime!!
I have started getting accustomed to taking a Siesta every afternoon after lunch, which I love because then I can stay up later at night!!!! Shopping is awesome here, lots of different types of stores to go to!! Of course, I cant go shopping without looking at or buying a purse!! Yes I did buy one!!! And the boot search, I have given up on because the actual tall boot part wont zip up over my abnormally sized calves:( Oh, well, warm weather is on its way!! Right now it is around 60 degrees during the day and a chilly 40s at night!! I know you're thinking that isnt chilly at all, especially since you all have a ton of snow back at home!!
Things about the people of Granada I have noticed so far: 1. everyone who owns a storefront is outside moping the tiled ground in front of their stores every morning; at least a lot of them do 2. there are spots for parking your cars along the streets, similar to a drop off area where cars dont drive through unless parking or picking up someone. This morning I witnessed a car pull onto the sidewalk to back into a spot he couldnt get into from the street!!! It was crazy!!!
Hopefully more to come very soon!!! And hopefully I get my internet back even sooner!! Adios!!!
