The plane tickets have been bought and launch time is approaching.  Wedding planning has taken a back seat and in most cases been totally forgotten.  Sometimes I wish we would have just eloped to Vegas and been done with it, but on the other hand, it will be a wonderful send off with all our family and friends.  Plus, we registered at REI which will really help our travel fund in terms of gear.

The current schedule looks something like this:

Bogota, Columbia
Cartegena, Columbia
Lima, Peru
Cuzco, Peru - Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu
Quito, Ecuador
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Carnivale
Santiago, Chile - stopover
Auckland, New Zealand
Chistown, New Zealand
Sydney, Australia
Cairns, Australia
Hong Kong, China
Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam
All over South East Asia - Cambodia, Loas, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore...
Johanesberg, South Africa
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Cape Town, South Africa
Barcelona, Spain
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
London, England
San Diego, CA
(subject to change)

The ticket purchase has really set in the reality of our trip.

We've now been stuck about 6 times each with needles full of yellow fever, typhoid, Hepatitis and all other sorts of diseases.  I never did understand why you would inject a person with a small amount of a disease only to prevent that person from actually getting the disease, but then again I'm not a doctor.  I also don't charge people and arm and a leg to be inconvenienced on a nice summer's afternoon only to poke them with needles and inject disease which then makes their arm sore enough so that lifting a mere pen is strenuous.

I'm looking forward to conciously not drinking water anywhere unless bottled, picking ice out of my drinks or actually requesting a cocktail with no ice (yum, warm liquor), applying the most potent mesquito repelant in every area of my body and sleeping under a bug net soaked in smelly spray.  It all sounds so high maintenance, but I believe it's rather annoying and messy.  But hey, who wants malaria?  Initially, the hallucinating effects sparked my interest, but that coupled with a high fever, cold sweats, and nightmares encouraged me to change my mind.

Now the goal is to sweap the condo clean and trash anything that's unnecessary or old.  Find a renter or property manager.  Move condo contents to a storage unit.  Figure out what to do with my car for a year.  Make sure we have all the necessary documentation for travel.  Ugh...the list goes on.
