After Munnar, we headed off to Kumily, a cute little town jsut about 4km outside of the Periyar Wildlife Park which is home to tigers, elephants, bison, water buffalo, wild boar, deer, and I am sure a plethora of other animals and birds I failed to mention.

The bus from Munnar to Kumily was a gorgeous trip in a smaller bus, but again, the windy mountain roads are NOT for those prone to any motion sickness. SEriously, it is some intense driving for about 4 hours. The driver was a madman who didn't believe in brakes I reckon. Anyways, we made it safely, thank God!, and it was nice to get to another beautiful cute town.

A lot of the accomodation borders the wildlife sanctuary so the views are really splendid. The big thing to do in Kumily is of course visit the park. There are lots of optiosn as to how you do this - by boat, by jungle trek, night jungle trek, bamboo raft, etc... Now, the original sound of a night jungle trek was intriguing, but thinking through it and the the reality of snakes, tigers, etc... we decided on the boat. I had been told that the boats are best because the animals come to the water to drink. And, Lonely Planet (the travellers bible) recommended the cheaper Forest Dept. boat tours, so we went with that.

It was 300 rupees each to enter the park for tourists and only about
