Dublin
Entry 3 of 23 | show all | print this entry |
I arrived in Dublin on January 13th and was lucky enough to skip My 6 hour layover in Heathrow London and hop on an earlier flight to Dublin. However, poor Vin was rudely awakened by My 8am call from London saying I am arriving early! So, i got into Dublin at about 8am and it was so great to see a friendly face as I arrive (note, i usually arrive to all strangers so this was a nice change). We headed back to his new little slice of life in Rialto part of Dublin which is an up and coming area right in the heart, well, close enough to the city and directly on the Luas - the great tram through town.
I caught up with friends Saturday night but due to serious jet lag or more accurately travel lag seeing it was only a 6.5 hour flight from London to Chicago, i had been up about 30 hours with all the layovers. I spent the weekend in Dublin which was surprising a really cool town. Very busy place with lots of hustle bustle on the very old streets. i just love the feel of the old buildings and things like the General Post Office are even nostalgic seeing it housed the Easter Rising (more info available in history books!). So, i explored Dublin Sunday and Monday went to the amazing Book of Kells at Trinity College. This was a must do from what everyone had told me and i agree. These bibles are amazing and the long room was phenomenal housing the oldest books owned by the college including original shakespeares and other historic documents.
