Wrapping up a wonderful 3 week visit back home in good old Indiana. Had a chance to visit with my closest friends and all my family... especially the absolutely squeezable niece and nephew! It is really great to have so many people to love so much! However, I am now, yes, once again....headed off to the airport for what I conjecture will be a pretty interesting adventure between now and April.

A quick exposition - basically, my contract (working on social policy as a project manager)  in New Zealand ended December 8th and with the combination of wanting to come home for Christmas AND wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to sail with some friends from Maldives to Oman.... I had to just bite the bullet and book a round the world ticket. A, it was more cost efficient and B, why not?

I booked my ticket on Star Alliance which allows you to do RTW tickets in mileage increments and you can accrue miles for future bookings which is great. Other than knowing I wanted to go to US and get near the Maldives and back to NZ I just filled in the blanks with a quick stop in Samoa on the way home to US and having always heard wonderful things of Ireland and noting that the majority of my first friends in NEw Zealand were Irish, it was an obvious stop. I plugged a quick stop in Germany in which I may or may not do, but I am routed from Germany to India in February. I wanted to be close enough to fly to the Maldives when my friends call me to sail, so I know I am headed there but not exactly sure for how long. Regardless, I will likely stick to the southern tip of India, state of Tamil Nadu and hopefully volunteer somewhere. Then, it is off sailing for a bit in what I hope will be friendly calm waters then a big, 12 day crossing to Oman. Did I really sign up for all this????? Crazy!

Okay, well, I am finishing packing here at my Mom's and for those who have had the honor of seeing me in my pre-trip stress mode, yes, it is entertaining. I am heading to the airport in about 2 hours then connecting through Chicago and eventually to London Saturday morning. Then, after one more 5 hour layover, I finall get to Ireland!
I am really excited, anxious, nervous and overall thankful for the opportunity to continue attempting this half policy wonk, half vagabond explorer lifestyle. When I was 15 everyone said go enjoy your trip to Belgium, when I was 20 everyone said go enjoy Colorado, when I was 22 they said it was the time to get travelling out of my system so enjoy Morocco, Spain and Portugal and when I headed to New Zealand in May of 2005 my family held their breath. I think they still are seeing that I am not sneaking up (I say sneaking because I still get carded for drinks and am incessantly asked if I am a student!) on 30 years and am now off on this new adventure!

If you want to be automatically emailed when this is updated - which I hope to do regularly along the way at internet cafes - click on the subscribe button. I am new to all of this but I think there are help buttons for visitors to explain all of the features.

Happy New Year! Peace, Lanah
