From Piura we took our first 'Cama' ('bed' in Spanish) bus -amazing buses, with massive armchair type almost fully reclining seats, food served and movies shown) south towards the coast. After miles and miles of nothing but sand desert, we arrived at Trujillo and took a short taxi ride to a fairly cool surfing and fishing town called Huanchaco.

As the sun was out, we decided to stay here two nights, so during the next day checked out the town, l (Tim) had my first serving of the local plate of Ceviche (raw fish cured with lemon, onion and chilli...bouncy, but fairly tasty, Lou's a fan of it's flavour but give me garlic and the like any day!). We sat in the beach for a bit and watched the local fishermen in their unique canoe style boats made from reeds! They were like giant straw winklepickers, apparently unique to that area and made in that way so they can 'surf' through the high waves. There were numerous surfers learning to surf on the calm waves in the early morning and mastering some great techniques.

The next early morning, we checked out and said our goodbyes to the hostel owners and the dog (a cute, cream colored spaniel). He seemed to take a shine to us - so much so that he sneaked out and followed us all the way down the sea front for about 10 mins while we tried to flag a local cab. Eventually we found one, got in and it seemed the dog wanted to come on our journey too! As he tried to hop into the cab, he looked confused and disappointed when we shook our heads no and had to close the door. As the cab pulled away, we looked back to see him looking very lost and panicky that although he'd had a great adventure, he was now far from his home, We did consider turning round and driving him back to the hostel, but we figured dogs can smell their way home. If not, he'll just have to add himself to the numerous strays in South America -
Lou was almost in tears of guilt! ....
