18/01/2011 - Tuesday
Back at the hostel Oliver called a doctor for me, and after a consultation I was diagnosed with... chicken pox! The thought had crossed my mind before, since I never had chicken pox when I was a kid, but it just seemed so unlikely I didn't give it a second though.  My initial reaction was that I would not be allowed to fly and would be stranded in Cusco for a week, thus impacting on our fairly ambitious itinerary, but thankfully the doctor said it would be fine to travel, just that I needed plenty of rest.  I was prescribed some medicine which Oliver went and bought for me, and I had an early night.  By then my face was all puffy and covered in sores from the chicken pox.

We booked flight from Cusco to Lima before leaving for the Inca trail, so we dragged ourselves to the airport by 7am, myself very sick, and Oliver very hung over.  After our luggage was checked, I realised I had left my pocket knife in my carry on bag, which unfortunately meant I had to throw it in the bin.  Oliver also had to throw his out after the scanner picked it up.  We were off to a great start.

The flight was quite short, and I was asleep as soon as I sat down.

The good news is you're not suseptible to chicken pox once you had it.
