Where I stayed
may 23rd - by the shores of Lake Mead in Arizona

After leaving the mountaintop campsite, we headed Northeast to the Valley of Fire, aptly named for its amazing burnished rock formations. on the way into the park, we encountered the fearsome Gila's actually quite small, but aggressive and venomous. In the park we marveled at the amazing rock formations, pondered some ancient Indian petroglyphs and I even rode the stone elephant.

After leaving the Valley of Fire, we crossed the Hoover Dam into Arizona and set up camp on the barren shores of Lake Mead. It really wasn't a very pleasant campsite. About two hours after falling asleep, we woke up to howling winds and moved into the back of the truck for fear that the wind would shred the tent. When we awoke in the morning, however, the wind had died completely and we were delightfully surprised to see two wild burros playing in the sand right outside the truck.
