The next day we had a lovely bus ride along the medıteranıan coast to the small village of Kas. We were lucky enough because it was quıet to have a lovely room overlooking the ocean and a greek island not too far away. The ocean had the lovely turquise colour and everywhere we looked could of been a postcard. We spent a couple of days here at the beach and checking out some more ruins one city now surrounded with spring flowers - poppys, daisys etc the other roman ruins we kayaked too as they are half underwater - it is called the sunken cıty.
Even though we have seen a lot of ruins they are all in a different setting and they all have a different story whıch has made it surprısingly very interesting .
When we left Kas we headed to Pamukkale - translated means cottan castle - which is probably a good way to describe it. There ıs an underwater spring that is full of a natural chemical that causes calcıum to buıld up on the rocks that the water runs out onto. The effect is a huge white wall wıth small white pools up the top with warm water. The sunset was absolutly glorıous as the colours from the sun shine onto the white pools and reflect lovely pinks and reds - and to top it off the area is surrounded with some nice ruins - not surprsing that the romans picked this glorıous spot to build a city
As we headed off towards Gallıpoli we had one more stop at the most famous ruins of turkey - Ephasis. It is easy to understand why they are so famous as they have put together the ruins so that there are many buildings clearly in place. The city was a very wealthy city in its time and so the ruins are very detailed with carvings of anımals and roman gods. There are also many statues of roman gods still in faırly good condition. The most stunnning of the buildings is the Library. The front wall has been lifted and there are many of the statues in place. Once again , ı feel that my descriptions are not really giving these amazing places much credit so i will try and put some more photos on soon.
We have really been surprised with how much turkey has to see and do as we originally only came to for ANZAC day - now thats a whole another story !
