our first major city in brasil and the drawcard was honestly because we read in the guidebook that it was home to the largest japanese population outside of japan. with our fingers crossed (aand pathetic pathetic portugese) we managed to find the land of japan in brasil.
we were not disapointed. I am ashamed to say that for the 3 days that we spent in sao paulo, we didnt eat one meal that was not japanese. to add more to the embarassment we got takeaway sushi boxes for the bus trip out of the city.
the quality of the food was so good. each day we feasted on handmade ramen better than most ive eaten in japan, street vendors selling yakitori, octapus balls, supermarkets and supermarkets full of japanese groceries with a huge sushi selection fulkl of delicately cut sashimi and sushi! we even stocked up on packets of japanese curry. noodles and soya sauce to take away with us!
other that the japanese i cant tell you too much about sao paulo except that brasil is a pretty expensive palce to be in . kinda surprising, but apparently the econonmy has been growing more than 30 percent in the last year making things kinda at par with things back home.
oh well u have to live dont u...
