With huge ambitions to get around and see all of cuba, we made our way to the bus station in town to see how the bus system works. Since everyone spents their whole life waiting around in lines, there is a very smart system to lining up. for example. You walk into a bank, look at the bunch of people sitting around and not appear to be in any order, yell out ¨who is the last person¨, someone yells ¨me¨. Then all you need to do is hang around for a minute of two to make your place, then you can leave, come back 10 minutes later or more even and you spot will be saved. Absolute genius!
Anyway after waiting forever to even get close to talking to someone about a bus ticket, we decided that nothing was happening and wandered outside to ask about the taxi situaton. Five minutes later and at a cost of three quarters of the bus (dont ask why) we were on our way to Santa Clara speeding down the highway at 130km/h making our way there in 3 hours instead of 5. Nice.
Five minutes after arriving in Santa Clara we realised that it was probably the most uninspiring place I had ever visted. Not only was there no place to eat food, there was nothing to do and were were in bed by 9pm. No Joke.
The main attraction to this township however is a huge monument to Che Guevara which we visted in the morning hitching a ride on a horse and carriage that transports people all over town.
After visiting the monument we made our way to the bus station with hopes to end up in trinidad by the evening. Having missed the bus and determined not to stay in boring land for another day, we caught the first bus out of there - to Santi Sprictus. Embarrasingly we spent a whole 2 hours in this town after walking around and not being able to find accommodation. By this stage, we were determined to make it to trinidad and found a 1960s suped up chevvy taxi dude that was willing to take us for a joy ride! Beautiful scenery, a cool car ride (possibly the coolest car ride i have ever done) and a dutch guy (we met him on the bus) later we arrived in trinidad..
