Spent the last 2 days on Isla Cozumel (island) which is just off the coast of Mexicos yucatan. We were there for mainly diving since Cozumel is famous for its `walls` of coral that run for hundreds of metres deep in the reef.
With ambition to explore the island, we rented a moped (scooter) and sam the man scooted us around the island for a day. At first he wasnt too crash hot on the scooter (he couldnt even put up the bike stand), and was wobbling all around the place, but with time he improved! We visited a few of the beaches on the island, one of which we named our own (we were the only ones there!!) before driving to the southern most tip (punta sur) for the lookout. Cozumel was hurt pretty badly because of hurricane wilma and as you drive around the island, its pretty clear. All the shopping malls are still closed, most hotels along the foreshore completely destroyed and people are hard at work rebuilding to bring back the tourists.
Sam dived the next day at one of the `famous`reefs and saw miles and miles of coral walls, swam through coral arcs, saw millions of lobsters, eels and fish. I waited for him in the town square and laughed at tourists paying 5US for seashells after "bargaining". Little did they know that if they walked a few minutes down the beach shore that they could pick up HUGE seashells bigger that two fists for freeª
Oh wells at least they kept me entertained... i hope the keep me entertained since im heading to the dreaded land of cancun tomorrowª
