So we finally left cuba for chile, but unfortunetly for us because of our ticketing, we needed to fly havana-cancun-miami-santiago. This would have been fine if all our flights were in order, but as it seems nothing was going our way and it wasnt the case.
Surprisingly our havana to cancun flight was in order. When we arrived in cancun our planed seemed in fine order until we took off and the pilot decided that it wasnt safe to flythe bird. So down we went and ended up waiting for another 4 hours until it was good to go. Upon landing in miami, we missed our connecting flight to santiago, and after rushing around to get on a later flight, borded the plane, only to be stranded at the gate for anotehr 3 hours due to some other complicated error. A nice 30 hours later we landed in santiago, guidebook less, baggage less and hotel less. Some nice calls made by samson got us into a really nice hostel and we hit teh town with huge ambition to shop since it was 30 degrees and we were wearning winter clothes. Luckily Santiago is a super modern city complete with everyhthing you could ever desire both in terms of consumer goods and food! Complete with wine, great food and MEAT, we were in heaven!
During the time that we were in Chile we stumbled across the ¨love parade 2006¨which as far as i know is just a great excuse for all the cuban youth to run around crazy on the streets of santiago dancing the night away. On entrance to the free event samson and i feared the worst as we saw punk after goth after punk push past us and into the dancing crowd that were being completely drenched by huge water cannons being projected into the crowd. It seemed that we were the only people in there that werent completely soaked and didnt have confetti everyone. The actual point of the parade I never found out, because we soon took cover in a small cafe in teh midst of the parade and drank some beers with two aussies that we had met earlier our hostel. There was a period that got so crowded (apparently 100 thousand kids) that we felt so much safer behind the caged doors of the bar. The kids however, tired dehydrated and high on something or another begged us for water and beer which we happily fed them through the cage. The crowd was now rough however and rather really happy and having a great time...
however after all the excitement and relaxing during our time in santiago, we felt it was definelty time to move on, so we caught a flight to the south of chile in the heart of patagonia.
