Piura                                                 Fri-Tue 26-30/11/10

Hospedaje Confort, Calle Junin 554 (between Jr. Callao and Jr. Huanuco), Tel: (073) 418146. Whilst in Piura I stayed at this extremely friendly budget hospedaje. The rooms are simple with private bathrooms and cable TV - though no hot water. Their current rates were 25 + 45 soles for 1 or 2 persons. This offered the best standard of rooms that I came across for under 30 soles.

Hotel Marbella, Av. Blas De Atienza 208, Tel: (073) 308790. If you want to be in the thick of the action, then seriously consider staying here. Located near the heart of Piura's sprawling market, it offers surprisingly pleasant rooms with private bathrooms and cable TV. The bright tiled rooms are well maintained and offer good beds. Their advertised rates were 30, 40 and 50 soles for 1, 2 or 3 persons, and there was no need for them to discount as it was a popular place to stay – they were fully booked the four nights that I was in town. The rooms that I saw were better maintained than the other budget hotels in town, and despite its location, the rooms are incredibly quiet.

Hostal Diplomatic, Jr. Tacna 342, Tel: (073) 325243. This was one of the better budget hotels in town; offering en-suite rooms with hot water, cable TV, WI-FI, air-con and mini-fridge. Their rates were 45, 65 and 75 soles for 1, 2 or 3 persons.

Hotel San Miguel, Apurimac 1007 (Plaza Las 3 Culturas), Tel: (073) 305122. Located on a quiet plaza this is another of the better budget hotels, offering more than average en-suite rooms with hot water, cable TV and WI-FI. Their current rates were 45, 65 and 85 soles for 1, 2 or 3 persons – add another 25 soles for air-con.

Hostal Las Arenas, Av. Loreto 945, Tel: (073) 305554, Web: www.hostallasarenas.com . A once fine colonial family mansion has been restored to this half decent hotel, offering spacious en-suite rooms with air-con, cable TV and WI-FI. The hotel also boasts a friendly English speaking manager, pool and restaurant. Their rates including continental breakfast were 90, 110 and 160 for 1, 2 or 3 persons.

Top End

Hotel Los Portales, La Libertad 875, Tel: (073) 321161, Web: www.hotelportalespiura.com . Located on the Plaza de Armas, this grand hotel is housed in a finely restored colonial building. Boasting beautiful public areas; it offers everything that you would come to expect from an excellent hotel.

Hoteles Costa Del Sol, Av. Loreto 649, Tel: (073) 302864, Web: www.costadelsolperu.com.  This small chain of luxurious hotels offers most things that you would come to expect from a top end hotel.

Hotel Esmeralda, Av. Loreto 235, Tel: (073 331782, Web: www.hotelesmeralda.com.pe . This smaller hotel is housed in a fine colonial building and offers slightly cheaper rooms than the other two mentioned. Their rates are from 90 to 365 soles for 1-4 persons.
