This is a bit of trial and error and I'm sure that I'll do no better over the next few months. So to begin...
After a 24 hour journey from London to Brisbane followed closely by 30 hours on a train from Brisbane to Cairns I have been up what was the tallest building in Brisbane, cruised down the Brisbane river, sat next to an 8 year Aboriginal boy for most of 30 hours and snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef. Even better than that was a helicopter ride from the reef back to the mainland.
Central Brisbane is quite small and comprises of the main business district and shopping, a botanical gardens and the South Bank. The South Bank has a nice art gallery and lots of restaurants and cafes as well as an artificial lagoon to go swimming in
The train journey was quite pleasant. It's better than flying or a coach as you can walk around as much as you want. There's a restaurant and a sitting out car and the food is a definite improvement on airline.
Port Douglas is a small town about 1 1/2 hours north of Cairns. There's lots to do here as follows:
* Snorkelling on the outer reef.
* Helicopter ride over the reef and local rain forest.
* Bush walking. (No photographs as camera can't do it justice.)
* Good food.
* Nice bars.
* Cane Toad racing!
Hope you enjoy the photos, and next update will be the Whitsunday Islands, Fraser Island and back to Brisbane.
Hope you are all well,
