We started biking up PCH (Pacific Coastal Highway) and took a break in Laguna Beach. We went to a little donut shop and ate everything bagels smothered in cream cheese and talked to a couple friendly locals. They told us about how difficult Laguna can be to maneuver on bikes and gave suggestions of alternate routes. We took his advice and got off the main road as soon as possible. We found an awesome strip of beach where we walked along the coast and laid out in the sun... for a little too long we might add. After burning ourselves to a crisp we wanted to explore the downtown area of Laguna
We walked to a Mexican restaurant, Adolfo's, to have lunch. We ordered fish tacos and nachos to share. The food was delicious and the service was great! After filling our tummies, we continued walking around Laguna looking at shops and boutiques. They had the cutest clothes for a pretty penny. We, of course, did not purchase anything, but it was fun to look.
While grabbing our bikes from the cyclery one of the employees told us about a really great ride along the bluffs. He gave us directions on how to get there and highly suggested we stop at Ruby's Shake Shack and enjoy the most affordable meal available on the water. The views while biking along the bluffs were breathtaking! Once again, neither of us could stop commenting on how lucky we were and how beautiful this place is. Ruby's Shake Shack was delicious! We split a chocolate chip coffee malt topped with whipped cream and cherries while watching the sun set over the ocean. We also got to meet two wonderful people, Sonia and Nish, who talked to us about the area and different sites to see
It was only a 10 mile ride, but it took much longer than expected. Navigating cities has proven to be one of the most difficult aspects of our journey. Especially, when our phones die halfway through giving us directions and we are biking at night. So, we were very thankful when we arrived to our host's home at 9pm.
We were welcomed by Jared and his roommates, Zach, Nathan, Justin, and Justin's girlfriend, Mary. They gave us a tour of the house and let us get all cleaned up. Turns out, Jared's 21st birthday was only days prior so we went out to celebrate. We found, what we thought was going to be, a local dive bar and walked there. To our disappointment The Anchor Bar was not a dive and drinks were extremely expensive. We stayed for a little bit, but came home relatively early. On the walk to and from the bar we were able to get to know everyone a little better and explore the area. After taking the scenic view home we blew up the air mattress and went to bed hoping our sunburns would be healed in the morning.
We awoke to find ourselves redder than ever.
