We spent the day walking to the store, cooking yummy food, laying on the beach, blogging, and petting the dogs. Who, by the way, are absolutely crazy! Christopher Robin barks non-stop and Honey only has 3 legs. They are quite the duo.
Later that evening, after playing an intense game of Settlers of Catan, we went out with Lydia and Billy to a local pirate bar
In the next days we made pancakes for breakfast, continued relaxing, and went on a couple adventures as well.
One adventure that Billy took us on was in La Jolla, CA where we planned to swim with the seals. We met Mike at the cove and got ready to jump in. Mike was first off the rock and did so not so gracefully. We both giggled a little and then stepped to the edge of the rock for our turn. As Erika was about to jump in she spotted a giant wave approaching and crumbled under the pressure. She decided to retreat but it was too late, she was already slipping in. She spun 180 degrees, landed on her butt, and bounced backwards into the water. Terrified, she swam like mad to get out of the way of the wave. Amanda was not so lucky. The wave that Erika narrowly avoided slammed into Amanda before she had even reached the edge of the rock. The wave knocked her off of her feet and in a fit of panic she attempted to dive into the water... 6 feet from the edge. She belly flopped on rocks and banged the crap out of her knee. Somehow, making it safely into the water with the worst dead leg ever. Guess that's what we get for making fun of Mike.
After we all tumbled in, we started exploring a bit
We nursed our wounds a bit, Amanda and Billy were pretty banged up, watched the sunset and then grabbed dinner at In N Out Burger. After that we were all ready to relax. We went home, got cleaned up and invited Mike over to play a game. We had a fun time playing Family Business, a crime family card game. Mike told us he was heading to 7-Eleven to get a Slurpee before going home, and we let him in on a little secret: we had never had a Slurpee before. He was appalled and confidently insisted "We're going!" We walked to the corner, Mike treated us to a Slurpee, and our lives will never be the same. Thanks for introducing us to a world of wonder, Mike.
We stayed in Oceanside the next day too, we just could not get enough! Mike told us that the Sunset Market was not something to miss. So we invited Billy, Lydia and Brian to go with us. We walked around downtown for a couple hours looking at cool art and eating yummy food
These are the two coolest things we feel are worth sharing:
Salty Sisters is a candy company that has amazing toffee and scrumptious chocolate and salt combinations. The owner recently quit her job with the local community college and opened up her candy shop. They do online orders at www.seasaltcandy.com. We recommend the white chocolate macadamia nut toffee and the chai sea salt toffee. We are currently accepting them as welcome home gifts ;)
Gregg Visintainer is an extremely talented pen and ink artist. He creates detailed works that revolve around a theme and contain hidden words, pictures and dates. You have to go to his website to truly understand how awesome it is: www.vizartink.com
