Yesterday we headed back to Phuket town to get a bus to Kao Lak. We had over an hour to wait so we went off in search of a cluoy pan (AKA banana milkshake) in the scorching heat with big backpacks in tow. We admitted defeat after half an hour but luckily we found a nice bakery and bought lots of pastreis and other goodies. It can't have been more than 5 minutes later we came across another good bakery (I seem to have a 6th sense for them) and had a bite to eat and drink before dashing off for our bus.

In Kao Lak we had the tedious task of finding somehwere to stay. All the guide book suggestions were full or stupidly pricey but we managed to stumble across some basic bungalows with no name (behind some bar next to O'Connors Irish bar) and Ollie talked them into giving us a discount since we were planning to stay 2 nights. We spent all afternoon trying to ask about the possibility of paid or volunteer work on a dive boat going out to the Similan Islands (one of the best places in Asia for diving). I seemed to have no chance being only a mere hostie and snorkel guide as they tend to employ Thai people for those kind of jobs. Ollie however, is a qualified dive master so he is handy to have on board however the season was pretty quiet at the moment and Kao Lak is aimed at Scandinavians so they wanted him to speak Swedish to get a job.

That eveneing we played pool at our bar which was dead but it meant that we could choose the music on the CD player. They had an amazing old school dance CD with so many classics from my A-level and uni years so i was very happy that night, plus I think I even beat Ollie at pool once! Ollie wasn't so happy though as I'd insisted on listening to the CD all the way through and the pancake vendor had closed down by the time we went to get some food.

Today we popped into Phuket Divers shop and met Tobias (Danish I think) and Ollie asked about work and then asked if it was possible for him to get some kind of a discount with him having worked in the dive industry. To our surprise he offered him a trip at almost half price! I cheekily jumped in and asked if I'd be able to get any kind of discount, which to my surprise he said I could go for the same! We said we'd think about it as it was still a large amount of money on our budget and went to the beach. We decided we'd be stupid to turn his offer down so quickly headed back and paid our deposit - very exciting as I'll get to do my first ever night diving!

Tonight we rented a motorbike and went for a quick cruise to the next little town. We played more pool and had an early night as we want to set off to Kao Sok National park early tomorrow since our dive trip doesn't leave until the weekend.
