Decided this morning to fly out of Mulu, although annoyingly at the airport I was told someone had been trying to find me to organise hiring a guide together for caving - aarrgghh!
Got to Miri and checked into the Highlands hostel to find the owner informing me that all flights to Bario (my next plan) were full for at least 2 days. I don't have 2 days to kill, especially not in Miri so after some food and ice-cream I made the rash decision to go to Kutching tomorrow. My mate Jack I met in Singapore will arrive there later this week so I can visit some of the national parks there with him which will be great as it will be nice to have the company. Luckily I didn't have to eat on my own again last night as I went out to dinner with a guy from my hostel - can't remember his name but he does some kind of IT work for sky tv.
Didn't sleep much as the room was stifling hot so I sweated most of my body fluid and got attacked by a ton of mosquitos (again) - really need to get away from towns on the coast and places near mangroves and rivers but as it's monsoon season then I guess it's worse than usual at the moment.
I'd considered taking the bus to Kuching but the hostel owner warned me that it takes 16 hours, I'd arrive in the middle of the night and it was only slightly more to fly with Air Asia so I got up at the crack of dawn today to try and catch the 7am bus to the airport. After waiting nearly an hour (and some dodgy guy offering to take me) I had to make the decision to get a taxi which was expensive. Not only that but since I couldn't book my flight on the internet the day before as it was less than 24 hours, they charged me full price for my flight, 200 ringets (more than double what the bus would have cost!) so I'm becomming rapidly broke!
