Post Abel Tasman I had to decide what to do next and whether to stay traveling with Heather. Heather is on a much quicker path through New Zealand and to stay with her would have resulted in getting to Auckland two weeks early which I had been advised to avoid at all costs. So after Abel Tasman Heather and I separated and I stayed with Dave. Dave who has a car.
Whilst driving back to Nelson we managed to make a decision to stay in Nelson and do a wine tour before going down to Nelson lakes to do some walking. We headed off on wine tour expecting to get quite drunk but somehow the measures we were received were a little too small to get us drunk but what can I stay. We had a lovely afternoon pretending to know a little bit about wine, drinking wine in the sunshine before returning to Nelson to drink more wine and watch sunset together.
The following day we headed down to Nelson Lakes which was so picturesque. We had some little walks arround the lake (too hot to do serious walking). We were warned about the sand flies and this is the worst place for them but there were also so many wasps. I am actually quite scared of wasps and found it quite traumatic when 5 flew into our car. The Lakes was actually really nice just to chill out. The village to St Arnauld only has 1 backpackers, one bar attached to a hotel, one cafe and one shop. So really small. As Dave was heading South and I am heading North we seperated outside the hostel in St Arnauld. It was quite funny traveling with a guy as I think people were always assuming we were together. Even waiting for my shuttle bus with him, people were really suprised when I got on the bus and he walked over to his car. I did joke that we had just split up but then people believed me so I had to correct them. So back to solo traveling, the first time really since Cambodia when I met Emma.
