Ever watched a Rugby game? Probably not if you are American. Though I've seen a few matches in bars playing while abroad, I've never sat and actually watched a game, until today. Of course, of all days to start watching, it just had to be the Rugby World Cup Final with France and New Zealand. The Blues vs. The Blacks

I met up with two of my new British friends at La Hazard, a pub in city center Grenoble. Arriving only a few minutes before the match was to start, the pub was already overflowing with locals drinking, smoking and ranting for the match to begin at 10 a.m. Based on the roars, screams, cheers and rants made by the crowd, I was able to follow the game quite well. Though I'm not quite sure what most of the French were saying, and based on many of the men surrounding me, I probably shouldn't repeat many of those words in public...

Final score: New Zealand 8, France 7. Surprisingly no riots or disgruntled fans following the match, most people applauded to a good game and continued on with the day. Maybe this is where  another aspect of a "hooligans sport played by gentleman" comes in: no need to break up fights or outbursts following the match. Gentleman play and watch rugby. Whereas, I'm not sure the same can be said for soccer: "gentleman's sport played by hooligans". With squat teams and security outside every match to ensure there is no chaos.

Realization about rugby: I never want to date a rugby player. Why? I would be scared to watch any game, thinking that this match he could get injured or worse a concussion or worse!... mmm, no thanks.
