Entry 7 of 38 | show all | print this entry

This weekend was my birthday, so justifiably (at least I think so) I've been somewhat out of touch. Now that I am 21 and ever so much more grown up, my entire perspective on life has changed: I still think that having 21 the drinking age is completely ridiculous and arbitrary, but now I get to laugh at anyone in the US younger than me. Mean? I'd like to think not.
So for the past four days (Monday NOT counting) I have been completely indulgent and did basically just about anything I wanted since it was my birthday. That being said I didn't do anything so exciting or important that you need a detailed play-by-play of the weekend.
Went to a couple clubs. Annie's host sister, Kata claimed this was going to be her last weekend working at UniClub and then she's going to quit. I'm not sure how serious she is about quitting, and we do always manage to have a good time there. We were there on Saturday night, just the girls and some of Kata's friends and two Colombian guys, though I still cannot say how we know them.
I also had lots of good food. I was sort of sick Wed-Fri but managed to clear that up in order to be for a bunch of great dinners. Sunday had to have been the best meal I've had in Buenos Aires thus far. One of my dad's co-workers recommended a few places to check out, and when we drove by one on our way to Puerto Madero for dinner, I recognized the name and demanded we eat there. Its Cabaña Las Lilas. It was a nice steakhouse, and you could tell it's a bit touristy and for that probably overpriced. By the actually knew how to properly cook a medium rare steak. Besides that they kept bringing out little appetizer dishes, and bread, and cheese bread, and all sorts of things to eat before our meals arrived. We had some great wine, and a very interesting conversation about politics here and in the US with our extremely intelligent waiter. Then they brought me champagne and a birthday dessert! I was so spoiled at that dinner- food coma.

Most all of my classes have started now except the mandatory language one at UBA, still I feel like I don't ever do anything. Tomorrow is some sort of holiday at UCA, I'm assuming its something related to Catholicism or Saints, and we don't have class. Next Monday is another holiday, too, and since I don't have class on Friday, that's very little class in the near future. We've decided to go to Uruguay this weekend with the extra day off. We're leaving Friday morning. We can take a ferry right over there that takes about 2 hours. We get into what is supposed to be this cute 17th century town, Colonia and take a bus to Montevideo. Hotels have not been completely worked out so I cant say where we're going to be exactly.

That's basically everything. Except I have a new ambition in life: find and marry a gorgeous, successful, Argentine polo player. But also seeing as I know next to nothing about polo, I also only want that to happen if he's tall, too.

Susana's house phone (that I'm never allowed to use) has the most annoying ringtone ever. And at first it was not at all bad. The song it plays I think is called something about the Mountain King, and he has a hall, maybe its like in the Hall of the Mountain King...yeah I think that's it. Anyway so its Bach. And I used to have pleasant thoughts and positive relations to the song because it was one of the "hard" songs at the end of one of my beginner piano books, so when I finally learned how to play it, it was, in my 5th grade mind, quite an achievement. But now I want to scream whenever her phone rings because it rings and rings and rings at all hours of the day. Its positively awful, why can't she just use a silly normal ring? I bet if I asked her she'd get all mad and condescending, too. But I spent the weekend in a hotel with my friends so I didn't have to see her for two whole days!
