The one in which I arrive
I have now been in BsAs 3 full days.
As I am new to travel blogging, and blogging in general, I am not entirely sure what is expected of me in these entries. I will try to keep anyone who is interested informed of my activities as frequently as possible, although I am almost positive the novelty of being a "blogger" will quickly wear off and I will forget about my ambitious online travel journal soon enough.
That in mind what have I been up to?
- Well, I arrived a day late. The story behind this apparently relates to some failure within the brazilian air systems, which forced all flights in the air to turn around and those that had not taken off to be canceled. Some trixy pilots were able to alter their route and go through peru...not my flight. Instead I got an extra night at home, bought some harry potter glasses, and bought my book at midnight.
- Arrival: a completely frazzle-ing experience. Waited about 45 min for the bags to come out and managed to find the correct remis (taxi) station to get me to the hotel were orientation was. Arriving a day late, I basically missed all the introduction stuff and quickly learned that the day to move in with our families would be that night instead of two days later.....
the next hour was spent frantically trying to contact the lady i'm staying with, Susana, to make sure it would not be a problem if i came earlier than expected. It was fine.
The other days of this week have been more boring orientation meetings about signing up for classes and spanish langauge placement exams...
What have I learned about Argentina so far?
1. everyone is really short
2. no one is blond
3. i stick out like a sore thumb
4. you get used to being stared at by the 3rd day
5. banana flavored oreos...?
6. bring your own chapstick and gum
7. i am not allowed EVER, EVER to use the phone or computer in the house. no one is to call. it is for susana's use only. no one can EVER EVER come upstairs, but my friends (susana is incredulous i have them) might meet me downstairs in the tea house or ice cream store if they want.
8. i want to move
that's all for now
Ciao, Alex

Alex,
Sorry to hear that you are NEVER, EVER to use the computer, phone or have friends to your host home. Susana sounds like a character right out of Harry Potter. Groan...feeling your pain. Jim and I will be enjoying your blog reports...keep em up. Banana Oreos's...that is just wrong.
Love
Leigh
