Venice Beach was a real eye opener for us - not at all as we'd expected after seeing it on tv/movies. Instead of pretty blonde beach babes on rollerblades, and guys lifing weights near buffed beach goers playing volleyball, we saw an endless parade of homeless people & beggers, with row after row of shops selling cheap tee shirts & tacky souviners. We walked along the boardwalk there & back again, stopping for a large piece of pizza ($2.75 cheap!) before heading back to our truck. The next stop was Santa Monica Pier, which was pretty cool, although the little fun park there wasn't open. We got some nice views of the beach, but the view in the distance in any direction was blocked with smog, so not the most picturesque of days to view the beach. We then had to battle through one & a half hours of slow traffic to get back to Janine's house (Fred's cousin who we are staying with).

Coming to an end
I'm going to miss this ritual of logging in and listening to the adventures of the Alvrez's! Disappointing that you didn't have nice weather for the beaches. I don't think I ever did get the opportunity of stopping at the beaches but we saw them and they were a pretty picture. So much for the lazy old summer days of LA (well, not quite summer). I'm glad you got a chance to go to Knotts Berry Farm - fancy Katie, and Josh- you're brave going on all those roller coasters! I understand your response Tracey, we'll compare experiences later!!! All the best as you say your farewells and prepare to come back here.
