We decided to catch the Port Duke Ferry (near Nanaimo) to Tsawwessen (don't try to say it, trust me!) which is below Vancouver, BC. This ferry was a lot bigger & a lot nicer than the one from Port Angeles to Victoria, and you hardly knew you were on a ship it was soooooo smooth (great for those like me who are prone to sea-sickness). We breezed through American Customs when we reached the border, and back into the States we drove. Washington State really is pretty in fall; it's real eye candy even driving down the Interstate with all the trees showing off their fantastic colours like showgirls in Vegas. We followed the Interstate through & past Seattle, and saw the 'Space Needle' in the foreground - a tower that is a tourist draw card. The city itself from what we could see was very pretty, with steep, tree-lined streets. So we'll have to put it on our list for another time. And we had plenty of time to admire the sights of Seattle...as we got stuck in a massive traffic jam that just went on & on & on...!
Back in the U.S.A
! We finally arrived at Longview, Washington and decided we'd boondock at the local Walmart. Well, we found out there is a reason that it's free to stay at Walmarts... it's very NOISY! Fred and I had only just dropped off to sleep at about 11pm (due to the boy racers hooning around, and a motor revving consistently somewhere in the parking lot) when a guy on some sort of motorised carpark 'sweeper' started rumbling around the 5th wheel from what seemed like midnight to 2 am - probably wasn't that long, but it sure felt like it at that time of the morning. We must have been in a particularly dirty spot as he spent a good amount of time right outside our bedroom window - either that, or he was wickedly chuckling to himself at the thought of keeping some tourists awake while he was working. Then some guy starts yelling, "Hey let's get out of here," over & over (why didn't he just GO???), and then the trucks started up, and a parade of trumpeting elephants... well not quite, but you get the idea... think we'll stick to campgrounds from now on.
