Drove through what seemed like endless fog this morning on our trip from Kent to Vancouver Island, BC, so we didn't see overly much of the Seattle area due to it. Lots of pretty fall trees everywhere, picturesque lakes and distant mountain peaks (no snow on them so far) once we reached Jefferson county in Washington and the fog finally lifted. We arrived at Port Angeles in plenty of time to get in the queue for the ferry. We had to grab some lunch from Dairy Queen and gobble it down in the car while we were waiting, but it was a lot nicer than we expected. The ferry over to Canada wasn't as large as the Interislander, but it was a smooth sailing (though I did feel a little queasy - I'm not good on boats of any size!). Vancouver Island is lovely - just what we expected Canada to look like, with beautiful tall trees in varying hues lining the highway (unfortunately the main highway dotted with numerous traffic lights which slows the travel time down). We felt like right wallies when following our streets & maps guide, we couldn't understand how the road signs were saying '95' to Nanaimo, and the streets & maps was saying '50'...then we realised that streets & maps was in miles, and all the speed limit signs and distance signs are in kilometres here! We arrived at the campground in Nanaimo at about 6pm.
