Desert Driving

We left the KOA in Vegas about 10am and headed up to Highway 93 which goes straight through the Great Basin Desert in Nevada. The craggy brown mountains on either side of the highway, and the scrubby land with stunted cabbage-tree type plants are actually quite pleasant on the eyes, but it is indeed a desert. On the way we saw a couple of foxes running across the road, at least we think they were foxes - small, golden coloured and fast. We pretty much drove straight through to Wells, Nevada, where we stayed at a nice campground, with immaculately CLEAN restrooms. The owner was very nice, and even gave the kids a free ice-cream. We were devastated to hear on the news that a 4 year old girl had fallen off Mather's Point in the Grand Canyon earlier in the day, we were only on that Point 5 days ago. I really feel for the family of that poor wee one, and for all who witnessed such a traumatic event.
