Got away from St Louis without too much trouble, and we hit the I70 for our 290 mile drive....! We stopped for lunch at a Truckstop in Concordia, Missouri, called 'Country Pride.' Nice big trucker portions too, but boy, were we full when we waddled out. When I was chatting to the lady behind the truckshop counter and she found out I was from New Zealand, she asked me if I would please send her a keychain from NZ as she collected them - well, I couldn't really say no and smear our Kiwi reputation for being friendly & helpful. While eating our lunch we were reading a trucking magazine, and trying not to spit it out laughing when we read an article about truckers and their pets. The article debated the choice of cats or dogs, and then listed some of the other pets some truckers had - snakes, pigs, goats, a declawed mountain lion and a miniature horse (not all in the same truck). The guy with the miniature horse was fired, but NOT because he was driving with a horse, but because he modified the cab by pulling out the sleeper bunk & putting down hay! Another funny incident on our drive was going through a toll booth, and me being sick of having some many 1 cents (pennies) paid the guy 10 pennies. As we were about to drive away from the booth, the guy came rushing out and flagged us down - we had given him a 1 cent Canadian coin, and he wouldn't accept it. So we had to dig around for another 1 cent USA coin!!! We ended up staying in a KOA in Lawrence, Kansas. The kids were disappointed that the pool had been drained for the year, but they enjoyed playing at the little playground, and approved of the free cookie they were given also.
