We all had a game of Mini-golf at the campground this morning - a really good course & free for a change. We got away a little past our goal of 9am, but then got stuck for ages in a gas station trying to get diesel! Finally we arrived at Venice/Casperen beach where we read in the Lonely Planet guide that ancient sharks' teeth wash up on that particular stretch of sand. So we trotted down to the beach (& it was scorching of course) and walked along the shore. Fred & Josh spoke to a guy who had a mesh bucket type thing in the surf. He was also looking for teeth and he gave Josh a couple of small teeth that he had already found, which was very kind of him. We started digging in the waters edge more, and lo & behold Kate found the first dark grey/black sharks tooth! This motivated us to dig more, but no one else could find one. We went back to the RV for lunch and then decided to hire a couple of the bucket things that the man had been using. We had better luck with them, though the kids tired of scooping up the sand/shells/seaweed pretty quickly and started to build a sand castle. We must have found about 10 -15 small teeth, with some of those being white 'recent' teeth. Fred had much better luck than I did - I think I only found 2 ancient teeth & 1 recent tooth! By the time we finally called it quits (looking for teeth is quite addictive, especially since Fred & I were getting quite competitive about it) Fred & Josh were looking a bit pink of the backs of their neck, and the back of Josh's legs were a bit rosy too. Hopefully he won't be too sore tomorrow. Then came the drive to Tampa, Florida where we are staying the night.
